How To Promote Your Local Shop With Social Media!
Today, most people uses social media to communicate with each other. If you go on Google and search for social media websites, then you will probably find thousands of websites where people actually communicate with each other and stay connected. Before social media, there was no medium or platform where you can share your things with your friends and family but now everyone has one active social network where they post and share things they like!
Since the Instagram has introduced into the market, the craze for this social media is amazing and so much effective than any other media. But if we compare this platform with other social media, Twitter might take place after this, but because of limited characters only 70% users prefer Twitter to share most life events. In other hand, the Facebook is the leader of every social media platform. Most common and most famous media would be Facebook.
So, if you are running a shop then you probably have an account with some social media where you interact with your fans. But the issue I’ve been observing is, more than 70%-75% followers don’t actually interact with your business page or account. The rest you can find it in comment sections. But the other people who don’t communicate just check your page, like something if it really moves them and move on! But you can change that by doing a little social experiment which might help you to increase your audience’s communication and sharing!
Here is what we can do:
Get A Facebook Business Page
First, you need to have a Facebook business page. Doesn’t matter how many likes or followers you have. Create Facebook Page and try to fill all information you can, even mission statement. The most important thing to mention is your current location of your shop. The location must be enabled to see it on map for any user. Once you done with that, create a Facebook ad campaigns [It’s up to you, if you need more conversation rate].
Secondly, you need to have verified Google AdWord account which will help you to promote your business on Google. By using Google, you are making your audience more broader. Google will certainly help you to promote your local shop. Other than that, you need to have Twitter account as well as Instagram account. In addition to that, for handling minimum 3 social accounts for free, you need have Hootsuite account. If you have Hoostuite account, you can manage Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at the same time from one app!
[For example and to understand it quickly and easily I’m setting a budget of $200]
Step One : Use Facebook
Campaign 1 : Reach People Near Your Business
Now, your first campaign would be, reaching out for those users who are around your shop. Once you have followed the procedure of ad campaign, then set a budget and start the ad for minimum 5 days of the week, let’s say run it from Monday To Friday. Set your first campaign’s budget to $20.
Campaign 2 : Page Likes
Once you have successfully target your audience through first campaign, it’s time to run the second campaign which will be Page Likes. While creating the ad select city or bigger area based on your shop location. Now, set the budget for this campaign to $20. Select full week for this campaign.
Campaign 3 : Page Likes [Different Audience]
Now, it’s time to make your circle more bigger. Create second campaign for last 2 days of the week, which is probably a weekend for so many people. Now, in this campaign, modify your audience, change your audience to ‘Friends of People who Likes your page’. This time, set your budget to $40 for 2 days, which would be Saturday and Sunday.
While creating this ad don’t forget to add Facebook’s other networking sites.
Step Two : Use Google
Campaign 1 : Keyword Planning
Go to your Google AdWord account and create a new campaign with adding keywords related with your business. For example, if you are running a cake shop, then add cake, pastry, cup-cakes etc. Also make sure you are creating negative keyword campaign too! Add those keyword which you want to avoid. i.e. If user searches for chicken and you are not serving chicken then Google will not show your ad if you have activated negative keyword campaign. This will save your money!
For this campaign, you will be setting your budget up to $50 or more. Run this campaign for all days of week.
Step Three : Use Twitter
Campaign 1 : Create Trend For Your Shop’s Famous Item
For advertising on Twitter, you need to schedule the campaign or create the campaign on the weekend days, where you will have most traffic. You need to create the the trend using # [hashtag] for your shop. I’ll let you know why we are going to pay at the weekend in the next topic which is ‘Preparation & Execution’.
Step Four : Preparation & Execution
Once you have set all campaigns, it’s time to create some actual human interactive campaign. Once you have enough likes and followers, create a Trend on Twitter or on Instagram of discount or anything else you think which can get famous. Ask each every people to use that trend to get 5% [Discount rate should be decided by you] discount on their purchase which will happen on the weekends. But the condition would be, they need to share the status including your Page/Account name along with your created Trend. For example, if I’m running a restaurant, and if I decided to give discount of 5% on any purchase then the walk-in customer should take a snap with their friends in the restaurant or take a snap of the menu they have ordered and create status like : ‘Hey, I’m at @RestaurantName enjoying #TrendName with 5% discount!’ The sentence could be anything, you just need to check whether the customer has shared the status on his/her social network along with your name and trend.
Once they do, gift them with the discount on their bill or offer something! It’s up to you! Make sure they leave with awesome experience. Make sure you are following the next step before getting your trend famous on Twitter.
Step Five : Twitter Ads
As I mentioned earlier, create a twitter trend and set your promotion’s date to the weekends, when you are offering discount in exchange of sharing your Twitter trend. You can set the budget to $30 for 1 or 2 days. Most of the users who will be in your shop, who will uses that trend, will automatic have top ranking because of too many shares!

Once more people have mentioned you on Facebook, your post may have more weight as per the Facebook’s page post policy. In addition to that, you are running two different campaigns, so when someone share their status, you campaign may capture their friends very easily. Your audience may get more broad in those last 2 days. Also, you may grow more followers on Instagram too!
Because of so many mention and promoted Trend will help you to get on the top list of Twitter trends. Your business may cover more audience.
After 4-5 days, specially on weekend, people may search for your location on Google Map or search for your address through Google. Once they search for you, by running your Google ad, your placement may be on the top, so people may have easier access to your shop address.
At the end date or hour of your every ad, create new offer and request people to stay connected with your page or account. Keep a surprise for the next weekend. This procedure will help you to create some excitement among your audience!
